Richard Atherton has been editing since 1981! In 1984 he joined a television company based at Pinewood Film Studios where he learnt to edit (as opposed to pressing the right buttons) from film editors and various directors. I wont say it was a long time ago but he was responsible for editing a pilot for Channel 4 before Channel 4 was even launched! He subsequently went on to edit many a programme for the channel whilst living in London.

Since 1997 he has been based in Bristol mostly working for the BBC in Whiteladies Road. During this time he also became an AVID Certified Instructor (though is no longer active on the AVID front) and got involved with Final Cut Pro from its outset.

In 2003 he became an Apple Certified Trainer as well as an Apple Solutions Expert. He has presented courses for the local Apple centre, Western Computer, as well as for Carlton/Granada, the BBC, S4C, other independent producers/directors and many editors. Recently has seen him teaching at the London Apple Certified training centres, Barracuda Media, Soho Editors and Corps Business. In between training he still manages to edit the occasional TV programme for the documentary department of the BBC in Bristol. He also looks after a few simple web sites such as this one.

Though its a matter of opinion, some say that he's quite musical and can quite often be found performing on a lap dobro as part of "Andrew Short & Friends". We don't mention the ukulele.

Without a doubt he's a bit of a Mac fanatic and takes every opportunity to evangelise. (You have been warned!)
